Weekly Newsletter from Dr. D.

January 21, 2020

Dear SKCEE butterflies and families,

Wow we have had amazing weather for our first two weeks back at school, Colorado is great for keeping us moving between shorts and ski pants in a blink of an eye.

With that said, I want to make a clarification regarding snow days and late starts:

  • The District calls snow days, it is not an individual school choice
  • Late starts and early releases due to inclement weather is also a District decision
    • There has been confusion regarding late starts
    • Beginning this year, Denver Public School has a 2 hour delayed start if the District calls a 2 hour delay
    • What that means for you as a family member of SKCEE
    • If your child(ren) is/are enrolled in Discovery Link, start time for that program is 8:30 am and it runs until 10:30 am
    • If your child(ren) is/are NOT in Discovery Link, you may bring your child to school for a start time of 10:30 am.
    • If your child(ren) is/are in our morning half day program, the school day for them ends at the regular time
    • If your child(ren) is/are in our afternoon classroom, the start time is your regular start time, no delay for your child(ren)’s class

As you know, all DPS schools have fire drills monthly, as we did last week. and

this week we had Lockout and Lockdown. We will practice shelter in place drills
as we move into the spring.

Thank you to all of our families for stocking our staff lounge, all the treats make

for a lovely pick me up during the day, and reminds us of our amazing SKCEE

Please remember our school’s protocol for entering and exiting the building:

  • Ring our front door and enter our front door
  • Exit our front door
  • Do not open the door for other individuals; I know this puts individuals you in an awkward positon, but it does allow for a stronger security for our students, families and staff. Our number one focus is the safety and security of your child.

Please remember:

  • Our hallways are busy, keep your child(ren) in close proximity to you, please remind your child(ren) to walk in our hallways and feel free to read a book, engage in hand plays or songs to engage with your child(ren) while you wait for your classroom to open.
  • The auctioned parking spots are for only for the families as they are labeled at all times.
