Dear SKCEE Families,
By now I am sure that most of you have received the announcement from the district about moving to Remote Learning after Thanksgiving Break. We have very mixed emotions about this announcement as I am sure that many of you do as well. We know that being in person and at school is the best way for young children to learn and we love being with them and seeing their smiles every single day. We also know that due to the community spread of COVID, it has been very difficult to keep our building staffed with enough people. So, for right now this is the right decision for the health and safety of our entire community.
The announcement from the district was a little confusing about what we would be offering for ECE students remotely. SKCEE will be offering remote learning to Kindergarten students starting November 30th, 2020. SKCEE will be offering resources for ECE families starting December 4th. All resources will be available via the SKCEE Website and we will do our best to have some resources accessible via smartphone. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer technology devices to all students in ECE at this time. However, teachers will be recording lessons and reaching out to families directly to maintain relationships with students and offer support. We will be reaching out to families to schedule one on one sessions for your child each week. We know that remote learning is hard for students and families but we are committed to making this the best experience possible. We will also continue to have SKCEE Weekly Parent letters to communicate with the community, so please be sure to check the SKCEE website regularly for updates.
Thank you everyone for your continued support, patience and flexibility through all of these crazy times! We know this is not easy for anyone and we greatly appreciate all that you are doing to support us and your children. I hope that you have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing you online!
Sincerely,
Matthew Johnson M.Ed.
Principal of Stephen Knight Center for Early Childhood Education
Thanksgiving Break: Nov 23, 2020- 27th, 2020
Kindergarten will begin remote learning on November 30th, 2020. Your classroom teacher will be in touch with specifics!! ECE will begin on December 4th, 2020.
There will be new office hours coming soon. We want to offer a variety of hours because of the virtual aspect so we are working on a new schedule!
The parent handbook has been updated for your reference. This is a great resource for policies and procedures and more information on COVID practices.
From November 27 through December 6, the PTA is hosting a small marketplace where you will be able to support SKCEE families and local businesses this holiday season. Throughout the week, the vendors will share their products, answer questions, and take orders. Access the
marketplace. If you or someone you know might be interested in participating, please email sandra.ellen.tucker@gmail.com. Space is limited and there is a $25 donation required to participate.
Thank you to all of our SKCEE families for making our first Read-A-Thon a huge success! There was more than 23,000 minutes of reading logged, and we raised over $8,000 for our school! Don’t forget to go into your student’s account to use their reading dollars to purchase prizes! Prizes must be selected within the next eight days, and, during that time, additional donations may be made.
Please come out to support SKCEE on the Day of Giving at Noodles & Co. (1502 S. Colorado Blvd.). They will be very generously donating 50% back to the school on December 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. Order online with the code “GIVING50” and grab your meal at the pick up station or through the drive through window.
As we transition to remote learning, the PTA is coordinating weekly storytimes to keep our students connected to SKCEE and each other. Every Wednesday in December, a SKCEE teacher or staff member will host an evening read-aloud. More information to come!
