Students in class

Dear SKCEE Families and Community Members,

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to safety. We want to make you aware that a student or staff member has been diagnosed with COVID-19. We have notified those people who were in close contact with this individual.

Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by public health. As part of this public health investigation:

  • The person diagnosed is being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
  • The person’s activities when they could have spread COVID-19 were assessed.
  • The people who were close contacts of the person with COVID-19 are instructed to stay home from school for 10 days after the exposure. This is called quarantine.

If you have any concerns about your health, we encourage you to contact the Denver Health School Based Health Center at 303-602-8958 (or your primary care provider) for further evaluation and possible testing.

Please carefully review the information below for important updates.

SKCEE/Cory Shuttle

Due to district wide challenges with driver retention,  transportation services are taking longer than normal to accommodate school requests.  Therefore, you can expect to encounter longer than normal wait times before you are contacted about confirmed bus routes.  We are currently working very hard to get the SKCEE/Cory shuttle up and running and humbly ask for your patience while we manage the current shortage of available drivers.

Website Update

We are currently updating our website!  Our goal is to provide as much current and useful information as possible.  On the website you can currently find contact information for your students’ homeroom teacher, office hours  information for the principal, helpful resources, and the Virtual Back to School Night video recordings.  Please be sure to check the DPS Website and the SKCEE website regularly for important updates.

Potential Early Dismissal Due to Heat Mitigation

The week of 9/7/21 to 9/10/21 we can expect high outdoor temperatures.  Since we are still installing a schoolwide air conditioning system, some classrooms may experience a higher than normal internal temperature.  We are currently doing our best to keep students safe and comfortable with the use of portable air conditioning units, and student safe fans.  However, if the heat index in the classroom passes a certain threshold despite these measures, we will implement a half day for the safety of students.  Internal room temperatures will be conducted daily.   If a room is deemed too hot for students, parents will be called to pick up students for early dismissal.  Should this occasion occur parents can expect a call from our automated system telling them when to pick up their learners.  Students will be dismissed using the same door entry, and staggered dismissal protocol.

Arrival & Dismissal

Please do your best to arrive during your arrival and dismissal times.  Both Cory and SKCEE  understand that some of our families have students at both campuses.  Due to district wide regulations beyond our direct control we were unable to accommodate all students with our start and end times.  However, if you have students that attend Cory and SKCEE please inform the principal upon your arrival this upcoming week, and you will be provided with some unique accommodations for arrival and dismissal.

New security measures

Starting Tuesday, 9/7/21 SKCEE will implement the Raptor I.D. security system.  This is a modern security system that allows parents, guardians, and teacher guests to swipe their drivers license upon entering the building.  This system will identify any potential threats associated with the license holder.  We will use this security system for the safety and well being of our learners.

Exiting the Parking Lot

It has come to our attention that some drivers are making illegal left turns when leaving the SKCEE parking lot.   While this may be a more direct or convenient route for some, we humbly request that you please take a right turn upon exiting the premises.  Attempting to make a left turn at this intersection not only causes unnecessary traffic, but in many cases causes near tragic car accidents.  Please, drive safely, be mindful of small children and families in the parking lot, and follow all traffic laws when exiting the parking lot.

Principal Office Hours

You can currently sign up for office hours with the principal Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the SignUpGenius link below.  When arriving at your appointment, you have the option of choosing a Google Meets video chat, or dialing in for an audio call using the information below.

No School on Monday, September 6, 2021 – in observance of Labor Day. We will see all students back in the building on Tuesday, September 7th.

Thank you so much for your patience with logistics this year.  As a school,  we continue to serve students to the best of our abilities despite district wide challenges.  I sincerely appreciate your cooperation and willingness to support SKCEE.

Best Regards,

Matt Johnson M.Ed.

Principal of SKCEE
