LEADER LETTER
Dear SKCEE Families and Friends,
We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to host Field Day! A huge shout out to Sara Whatmore and Natalie Chedsey, our PE team,  for all of their thoughtfulness and intentional planning which made this day such a success. It was great to see so many families here to celebrate with our students. Kids were having a fabulous time, especially at the water station where a lot of students soaked their teachers (and vice versa!).May is a busy time of year for most living things! Trees are budding, grass is turning green, kids are growing out of their clothes and students are transitioning to the next grade. With so much going on be sure to stop and smell the flowers, save a worm from a puddle after a rainstorm and enjoy a cold popsicle outside. Like Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” As both of our boys graduate from high school this month, that couldn’t be more true. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, slow down. Enjoy your children. This is a precious time and your kids are beautiful little people. Thank you for letting us love them. With gratitude, Shelley and Aimee P.S. Our reference to Ferris Bueller dates us but if you’ve never seen it, watch it!
INFORMATION, UPDATES, AND ACTION
Parking lot and traffic: As we near the end of the school year, please, please please, be a thoughtful member of the SKCEE community. Do not pull into the parking lot in the front of school and just wait for someone to leave. If you see a spot, take it, if not keep going and park up the street or make a lap and try again. We know it isn’t ideal but stopping causes traffic on Exposition and it is hard for the bus to get in. Likewise, DO NOT TURN LEFT out of the school lot during drop off and pick up. It causes traffic and chaos in the kinder kiss and go. We know we have shared this request many times but we continue to see families turning left, and we are asking for your cooperation.
Family Input Form: First round of DPS choice and UPK results have been released, and we are so excited to see some returning families on our lists! We also look forward to meeting our new Butterflies! We have collaborated with Cory Elementary leadership and created this optional family input form linked here for you to share home insight about your child. Please complete it by Monday, May 15th.
Spring Fling and End of the Year Celebration: Join us on May 18th for our annual spring fling from 4-6 pm. This year our spring fling will include a celebration of learning. Students and their grownups are welcome in the classroom for a 30 minute time block to celebrate learning. Kindergarten teachers have already shared with families the time their students can visit the classroom based on last names. ECE families please follow these time guidelines:If your last name begins with the letter A-K please visit the classroom from 4-4:30.If your name begins with the letter M-Z, please visit the classroom from 4:30-5.At 5 pm all students and families will join the festivities that PTA has organized outside. Please be mindful of your specific time to ensure that all families have an opportunity to explore the classroom.
Last Day of School: Reminder that the last day of school for all students will be Thursday, June 1st. Kindergarten continuation will be held on June 2nd, and our wonderful kindergarten team has shared those details with families.
Goodbyes, For Now: We will be saying goodbye to some of our beloved SKCEE staff after the year ends. Please join us in thanking JuneFrances Anderson and Bev Kretz for their dedication to our community over the years. They both have exciting new school homes and roles, and we wish them the very best. Additionally, Ronda Bailey will be taking a one year leave of absence, and plans to return to SKCEE in the 24-25 school year. You will all be missed!
