SKCEE FAMILY NEWSLETTER
June  2023
LEADER LETTER
Dear SKCEE Families and Friends,
The 22-23 school year came to an official, bittersweet close as we said goodbye to our ECE students on Thursday and as we sent our beautiful kindergarteners on their way after a lovely continuation ceremony today. Thank you to Karri Hart, Salynthia Russell, and Brittany Kline for an amazing year and for preparing our students for 1st grade.  Each and every one of our 67 team members contributed to the success of this school year.
You, our parents and families, have shown up in all kinds of ways; from volunteering in the cafeteria and the classroom, to orchestrating fundraisers like the Read-a-thon, the Scholastic book fair and restaurant Dine-Outs. You’ve chaperoned field trips and facilitated field day games. You have showered all of us with love during staff appreciation week and stocked our lounge monthly. You’ve written us thank you notes and shared thoughtful suggestions to make SKCEE better. Thank you for partnering with us for the good of our students and our school. We so appreciate this community and are continually grateful that we get to be in this space each day with your beautiful children.

As we jump into summer, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite summertime activities just in case you are looking for things to do:

1. Castlewood Canyon State Park – Fun place to play in a creek and look for frogs and crawfish and take a hike. Awesome photo ops.
2. Lakeside Amusement Park – Inexpensive, you can bring your own food and there are plenty of rides for young children. At night, the lights are stunning.
3. Train museum in Golden – So many trains to look at and climb on. Take a drive to Lookout Mountain or the Buffalo Herd overlook in Genesee Park and hike around.
4. Riding the light rail to the end of a line and riding it back – Fun just to be on a train and see the sights of the city.
5. Painting with water – Get different sized paint brushes and have kids paint the sidewalk or the house with water.
6. Fountains! – West side of Museum of Nature and Science, on 2nd Ave. just east of Quebec by Walter’s pizza and the Chop Shop restaurant, and in front of Union Station.
7. Public parks and pools – Many pools in Central park are designed for little people and swim lessons at city parks are very inexpensive. Check out neighboring suburbs too, they have some fantastic parks all over the metro area. The Belleview Park in Englewood was a kid fave with the river, train and petting zoo.
8.  Library story hours and reading programs – Denver Public Library hosts Summer Reading programs and events. You can also sign up for free tickets to multiple museums in the area such as the Colorado History Museum, the Baseball Museum, the Transportation Museum and more.
9. Waterworld, Pirates Cove and Brighton Aquatics facilities – Brighton pools are great for ECE kids and they have splash pads to explore too.
10. Denver Art Museum – Free for kids all day every day! Great place to cool down and explore. Take a sketch pad for your budding artists to be inspired. They have free and for pay activities all summer, and even some sensory days for kids with neurodivergent needs.

Go explore and enjoy and make lots of summer memories. For those of you leaving SKCEE, thank you for entrusting your treasures to us. You will be missed. For those of us returning, we are excited to welcome you back in August. Take good care.
We love you,Principal Shelley and Assistant Principal Aimee
