LEADER LETTER |
Happy March First Families and Friends of SKCEE! While the spring equinox is March 19th, we’ve been enjoying beautiful, warm spring like weather all month! We are extremely lucky to live in such a lovely state that gives us four seasons (sometimes all in one day)! We do go outside everyday with the children, even when the weather may be cool, so please continue to send hats and gloves and boots on days that the forecast suggests possible inclement weather. While we may not stay outside the full hour, we will at least take a walk and get some fresh air. And, it is Colorado after all, so we may still see a spring blizzard. I once again want to express gratitude to our community, and our PTA, for continuing to support our school in so many ways. Today’s bike build was a huge success, and next week your children will be able to enjoy the brand new PTA purchased Strider bikes and helmets that many family members stayed to assemble for us today. We are also excited to collaborate with PTA to celebrate spring during Rainbow Week at our first ever Friendship Festival. Here is the Rainbow Week Flyer. A tradition at SKCEE is to show school spirit and gear up for spring break by wearing the colors of the rainbow all week. See more about the event in PTA updates below, and please sign up to volunteer if you are able! The four DPS ECE Centers have begun to embark on the NAEYC accreditation process. We are in the early self-assessment stage, and are excited to dig deeper into these nationally recognized best practices as we continue to grow in ensuring that every child at SKCEE has an excellent early education experience. We are also continuing to collaborate with Boulder Journey School as we learn more about the Reggio-inspired approaches to ECE. In order to do this work, we will be having two non-student contact days this spring (no school). One on March 11th, and one on April 26th, which we shared with you in February. Additionally, March 8th is a non-student contact day in all ECE programs throughout the district so some of our staff can attend the Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference. We know this can be a hardship for our families, but it really is crucial to our educators to support their learning and implementation. The School Leadership Team has determined our three flex learning days for the 24-25 school year and are awaiting approval. We will be sharing those before the end of this year so you have plenty of time to plan. Thank you for all you do every day. In partnership, Principal Shelley Boberschmidt |
INFORMATION, UPDATES, AND ACTION |
Staff Updates: In January we welcomed our model one teacher, Sam Karner. She has been a wonderful addition to our SKCEE community, and we are happy to have her here. In February we welcomed a new paraprofessional to our team, Pragati Muley, who is also a parent. She has jumped right in supporting Ms. Hillary’s AM class and the outdoor team. Sadly, we did say goodbye to Ms. Emma Hosack, our outdoor team member and library para. She is irreplaceable, but we do have her position posted. For the 2024-25 school year our beloved Ms. Brittany Kline will be taking a year of leave to care for her new baby girl. We are thrilled to welcome a new baby butterfly to our SKCEE family. Lastly, Ms. Michelle Morales will be moving into a Team Lead role in the 24-25 school year. Please join us in congratulating her as she continues to embark on her leadership journey. |

Once purchased, the membership can be redeemed at any time before September 1, 2024. Please email knightceepta@gmail.com with questions. SKCEE Book Fair – April 9th – 11th It’s almost book fair time! SKCEE’s Scholastic Book Fair is happening from Tuesday, April 9 through Thursday, April 11 in the auditorium. By supporting the book fair, you help SKCEE earn Scholastic Dollars, which the staff uses to purchase books and other classroom items. If you’d like to volunteer to help with the book fair, please review the opportunities and sign up here. March Dine Out – Cherry Cricket – Tuesday, 3/5 Cherry Cricket will be hosting a dine out for SKCEE on Tuesday, March 5th from 11am – midnight. 15% of sales will be donated back to the PTA. COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS |
Monthly Mobile Food Pantry Starting March 18th, and on the third Monday of each month after, Cook Park Recreation Center will be hosting a mobile food pantry. Find out more here. Donations: As we wrap up our ECE Pets unit, we want to thank you for the donations you provided for the Denver Dumb Friends League. We met lots of sweet dogs, and their handlers were thrilled to take the donations with them. We will be moving into the Buildings unit in ECE, so we ask that if you have any interesting boxes, building materials, a bunch of nuts and bolts, or any special skills or a job in the building industry, please bring in the items, and let us know if you’d like to share your trade with some of our classes. We also would LOVE to build a wooden bridge or two for our outdoor spaces for our children to role play some of their favorite fairy tales and more. Please see Principal Shelley if you are interested in supporting our school in any of these ways. |
