Dear SKCEE Families and Community Members,

As per my previous communications, I would like to update the SKCEE community in relation to the status of the school’s leadership. As you know, for the last few weeks, I and Priscilla Hopkins have been supporting SKCEE in Mr. Johnson’s absence. We have sincerely appreciated the support you have graciously provided during this time.

Today, I would like to let you know that Mr. Johnson has resigned his position and will not return for the duration of the school year. Therefore, our plan is to have an interim leader finish the school year to ensure continuity with the operational and instructional processes of the school. As such, Ms. Joanne Lander will begin this role beginning next week. Ms. Lander brings many years of experience as a school principal in DPS as well as demonstrated success serving in an interim role. I plan to continue to support the school onsite through a seamless leader transition.

In the upcoming weeks, we will begin the principal selection process. I will keep the school community informed and provide details regarding the principal selection timeline and opportunities to actively participate in the process.

Thank you for your support as we work together during this transitional period. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Respectfully,

Dr. Bridgitt Mitchell, Director

Instructional Superintendent

Early Education Department

Important Information

Backup Clothing at School

With the start of the second semester we would like to remind all families to please send in a backup set of clothes for your child to keep at school. Please make sure the clothing is winter appropriate and includes pants, a top, underwear and socks. We would like all students to have backup clothes at school to change into if needed.

Open Enrollment for the 2022-2023 School Year

The DPS SchoolChoice open enrollment window for the 2022-23 school year is Jan. 14 through 4 p.m. Feb. 15, 2022.  We encourage all current families to submit their application during Round 1 of Enrollment.

SchoolChoice is as easy as Find, Apply, Register!

Here’s how it works:

  • FIND the best DPS school options for your student. Use the mobile-friendly School Finder, read the Enrollment Guide (mailed to transition-grade families in early December), and contact schools directly for more information.
  • APPLY between 10 a.m. Jan. 14 and 4 p.m. Feb. 15, 2022 by ranking your preferred schools (up to 12) using the online SchoolChoice application. Create an account or sign in using your Parent Portal username and password at dps.schoolmint.net/signin. Access the application beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 14.
  • REGISTER with your school after you get your school placement results in late March 2022.

If your child will be starting Kindergarten in the Fall, please complete the SchoolChoice Enrollment Application even if you are attending your home/boundary  school. This enables the school to plan for accurate student numbers and ensures that you receive timely communication regarding the upcoming school year.

For additional information please check the SchoolChoice website or the SKCEE website. We are also available in the office to answer your questions. Please email Staci_Becker@dpsk12.net or call us 720-424-6500.

Cold Weather Reminders

Now that the snow has finally started falling, we would like to remind all parents/guardians to dress their children ready for cold weather. Please send boots, heavy coats, mittens and hats to school with your child on cold, snowy days. Our classes will go outside even on cold days. Please send these items to school in reusable bags, per licensing we cannot have plastic bags in our hallways.
