Dear SKCEE Families,
Welcome to December! It has been wonderful to see you all again after a long fall break. On Monday, 12/6, our ECE staff went to CSU Spur to play, be inspired, and work on the first steps toward our NAEYC (National Association for the Young Child) accreditation process. Our kindergarten team spent the morning at Cory Elementary observing and collaborating with the first grade teaching team and Assistant Principal Myers. It was a bucket-filling day of teambuilding, learning, and grounding back into the work before we happily welcomed you all back on Tuesday.
Classroom parties will take place on Friday, December 20th from 2:30-3:00 for ECE classrooms and 1:45-2:25 for Kindergarten classrooms. Family members are welcome to join us. We are asking that parties celebrate light, winter and snow, not specific holiday traditions. Aligned with our Birthday policy, we ask that any food brought be healthy and store-bought, such as fruit, cheese, vegetables, etc. and as always, thanks for honoring our nut free school status to protect our little learners.
Thank you to the 80% of you who completed the DPS Our Voice survey! We won our category, and will be receiving $2000 to spend on resources for our school. I look forward to sharing the results with you in the new year, and share how we are reflecting and growing as a result of your feedback.
I also want you to have it on your radar that the DPS School Choice window for the 25-26 school year opens at 10 a.m. on Jan. 15, 2025 and runs through Feb. 18, 2025 at 4 p.m. EVERYONE currently in ECE 3 and ECE 4 must participate in school choice. Your child’s seat is not guaranteed at Stephen Knight year to year. You can find more information on the DPS School Choice website, linked here.
And, I saved the best for last! Our ECE 3 teacher, Shannon Mathiebe, and her family welcomed beautiful Isabel Evelyn to the world this week! Mom and baby are doing great, and Ms. Shannon will be missed! In her absence, our wonderful former para, Sue Contreras, will be teaching with Ms. Pragati Muley. We welcome our future Butterfly!

ECE Update:
ECE will finish the month learning about holidays, gratitude, and Light for ECE 3 and Clothing for ECE 4. We will celebrate the end of 2024 and the Clothing Unit with a school wide Spirit Week 12/16-12/20 and a Fashion Show on 1/10. See details in the flyers linked below in important dates! In the month of January ECE will be learning all about Simple Machines. Look for evidence of this new learning in the lobby and hallways in the new year.
Kindergarten Update:
Kindergarten is starting a Farm Unit. They will learn all about farms, what they are, what they do, and more. They are writing and blending CVC words, like cat, man, ham, and are working on the letter sounds b, l, r, u. In math they are being introduced to addition and subtraction and odd and even numbers. And, the kindergarten team is planning a Winter Show for families right before the winter parties on Friday, December 20th. Look for more information from the teacher team in the coming days.
Friendly Reminder:
When exiting the parking lot there are no left turns onto Exposition (Cory Shuttle Excepted). When you wait to make a left turn, traffic backs up and causes congestion in our parking lots. Please be considerate of other drivers and only turn right onto Exposition. We will begin monitoring traffic to encourage right hand turns during drop off and pick up.
-Thank you SKCEE community for another successful Stock the Lounge, we will be using the funds raised to purchase items for the teachers lounge this month.
